To actress Ana de Armas dislikes age rating awarded in the United States for his latest film, blonde, a Netflix production about the life of Marilyn Monroe, as it is only recommended for people over the age of 17. Its premiere in the United States is scheduled for this September 8th.
blondein which the Spanish-Cuban artist Ana de Armas plays Marilyn Monroe, received an NC-17 rating from the United States Motion Picture Association earlier this year due to “certain sexual content” which includes the film, according to the organization’s website.
This means that the film is recommended for adults only and that no one under the age of 17 should go into a cinema to see it.
The location of Ana de Armas
In an interview with L’Officiel magazine, of which she is on the cover, the Spanish-Cuban actress talks about Monroe’s hypersexualized personalityeither as a reflection of her desires or how people took advantage of her, something the film’s director, Andrew Dominik, wanted to tackle head-on.
“I don’t understand why it happened”says the actress about the rating.
“I can tell you everything a series of much more explicit shows or movies, with much more sexual content than blonde. But to tell this story, it’s important to show all those moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end the way she did. “
“It had to be explained. Everyone (cast members) knew we had to go to awkward places. I wasn’t the only one,” she said.
It is not a biopic
blonde is directed by Andrew Dominick (Kill them softly) and is an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name.
Strictly speaking, the film cannot be described as a biopic about the blonde actress from the time of the writer reimagines the life of Norma Jeane, aka Marilyn Monroe. Oates has always stressed that his work is fiction, so there are things that appear in it that didn’t happen in real life.
Filmed in 2019, Blonde has been postponing the release date for years. Rumors about how vulgar the film is and the appearance of some controversial sex scenesindicated why N’s streaming platform didn’t want to bring it to light.
“Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start: present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens”Says Ana de Armas, who plays the Hollywood icon.
“I wanted the world to live what it really feels like to be not only Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found it to be the boldest, most unapologetic and feminist version of her story I had ever seen.“.
Almodóvar has already seen it
Pedro Almodóvar wrote in May in his column of The newspaper that I had already seen it and that it is a “great” movie. Also she said: “I recorded a sequence (if it doesn’t disappear from the final cut) of the harassment, something else, I would say, that he suffered from the president JFK. The sequence is explicit enough to feel Marilyn’s repulsion at such a time. “
“If it had come out a few years ago, it would have come out right around the time #MeToo came out and it would have been an expression of all of that. We are in a moment, I think, where people are I don’t know where the lines are … “
“It’s a film that definitely has a moral, but it swims in very ambiguous waters because I don’t think it’s as simple as people would like to see it. There is something about it that offends everyone“, concluded the Spanish director.
