According to data obtained by Radio-Canada, the number of deaths associated with COVID-19 has exceeded the 15,000 threshold in Quebec since the pandemic began. According to the latest report, 23 more people died.
Since the pandemic began, more than 40% of deaths have occurred in CHSLDs. In the first wave, this proportion reaches 70%, before decreasing in subsequent waves, then rising to more than 35% during the sixth wave.
About 70% of deaths since the pandemic began have been in people aged 80 and over. It should also be noted that the proportion of people aged 80 and over who died from the disease rose again during the fifth and sixth waves.
Quebec has the highest COVID-19 mortality rate in Canada, with 173 deaths per 100,000 population; that’s twice that in Ontario.
The denial of hospitals
The latest data available shows a decrease of 38 hospitals.
Of the 2,252 patients treated in hospitals in the province, 74 people are currently in intensive care.
In addition, authorities reported 1,557 new infections in the past 24 hours.
However, the number of cases identified does not represent the situation, as access to screening centers is only possible for groups considered priority.
The number of active proliferations, meanwhile, is at 1014, indicates MSSS, which reports 17,168 tests performed for a positivity rate of 10.7%.
On the face of vaccination, the rate of Quebecers receiving two doses of the vaccine remains 87%. The rate remained unchanged (54%) for those who received the third dose.
