In the week of April 24-30, 185 people were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19, compared to 200 last week.

There were 12 admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units, the same as last week.

Weekly hospital admissions increased each week in April. The last time the weekly tally showed a decrease in the number of hospitalized was during the period ending March 26th.

As hospitals dropped, the number of deaths rose, with 14 new victims reported for the reporting period, compared to 13 last week.

The latest deaths have brought a total of 1,819 to Manitoba since the pandemic began in March 2020.

As many as 1,042 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, the only method of testing whose data has been officially recorded by the province.

This is a small amount of the real number of cases in the province, due to limited access to the trial PCR.

The positive test rate PCR produced in the province was 20.7%, compared to 23.4% last week.

The laboratories performed an average of 840 tests per day, compared to 955 last week.

Of the new cases reported, more than half, or 584, were in the Winnipeg health region.

There are 148 in the Prairie Mountain Health Region, 139 in the South Health Region, 88 in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region and 83 in the North Health Region.
