The decline of hospitals continues in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean

The sixth wave continues to weaken in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, while hospitals associated with COVID-19 continue their steady decline that began in mid-April.

According to data published by the National Institute of Public Health (INSPQ), on Tuesday, 40 people were hospitalized in connection with COVID-19 against 45 at the end of last week. However, it should be noted that increase of two compared to the previous day. The peak of 98 hospitals was reached on April 19.

Note that the surgeries include people whose primary diagnosis is COVID-19 (38% in Quebec, according to the Ministry of Health on Tuesday), as well as those for whom it is a secondary diagnosis or contracted disease in the hospital.

There have also been no additional deaths added since the last update on Friday. The death toll has remained at 439 since the pandemic began, of which 149 occurred in 2022.

As for intensive care, no patients have been there because of COVID-19 for four days now.

As for active cases in the groups with access to PCR screening tests, they dropped further, from 417 to 341.

Therefore, there was no marked effect on hospitals following Quebec’s departure from wearing a forced mask on May 14.
