A criminal negligence complaint filed against Danielle McCann and Horacio Arruda will no longer proceed, Radio-Canada has learned. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) does not seem to have found any evidence that could question their actions during the first wave of COVID-19 that claimed the lives of thousands of seniors.
After analyzing the file […] we believe there is no reason to submit the whole matter to the Director of Criminal and Penal ProsecutionsSQ confirmed in a letter sent to Paul Brunet, president of the Council for the protection of the sick, who was the source of the complaint.
Mr. Brunet said the former Minister of Health and the former National Director of Public Health with power and duty to act to prevent the murder that took place in the spring of 2020 at the residence of seniors in Quebec.
During coroner Géhane Kamel’s public questioning in November Mr. Brunet announced the existence of his complaint. Out of emotion, he denounced the inaction of the authorities which led, according to him, to an unacceptable wave of death.
These people were ignored, abandoned, sacrificed by the authoritieshe said to the coroner.
Neither Horacio Arruda nor Danielle McCann wished to give a reaction to the closure of this SQ file. For Mr. Brunet, by e-mail, he regretted that there was no answer for anything, during the first wave.
Despite the official closure of the file, SQ invites Mr. Brunet to send it to additional evidence that he may obtain in the future, may we read in the letter addressed to him.
