Mandatory vaccination will end Monday for federal government employees, Ottawa announced Tuesday. But unions representing civil servants regret not being consulted earlier.
This is the case of the Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE).
We had a 20 minute meeting this morning. This is not a consultation, this is an exchange of information. There is no opportunity for unions to give their opinionsaid its president, Greg Phillips.
However, the latter underscores the high vaccination rate in the federal public service. According to the federal government, 98.5% of public servants are fully vaccinated with two doses.
Civil servants who have not been vaccinated, those who have been suspended without pay since last fall, will be able to return to work.
Policy grievances were filed by the union on behalf of its members who were not vaccinated. For seven months they remained at home without pay, but at the same time no one returned to work in the office, continued Mr. Phillips. The union wants to reflect on these grievances.
” There are many questions for people who have not been vaccinated, but there are also questions for people who have been vaccinated, working with people who have not been vaccinated. “
Similar story from the side of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC). Its president, Jennifer Carrfound out about the break when Radio-Canada contacted its office.
Like other unions, we have been asking for an update for several weeks. We informed the Treasury Board of our frustration and hope that cooperation will be a priority in the future.said the union in a press release.
