A growing number of companies in Canada no longer require their employees to be vaccinated to work in the office, as corporate policies have loosened in line with public health guidelines.

Governments have eased restrictions related to COVID-19. Beginning Monday, Ottawa will allow plane and railroad workers and passengers to board even if they have not yet received the vaccine.

Canada’s major banks and the four largest accounting firms have canceled all their vaccination requirements for employees upon their return to office.

The two largest railways, such as Air Canada, the largest airline in the country, do the same.

However, not all major employers are on board. Sun Life Financial says its vaccination need for tens of thousands of office workers in Canada remains in place today.

Kathleen Chevalier, labor and employment lawyer at Stikeman Elliott, said the trend away from mandatory vaccinations is a sign of response to changes in provincial and federal rules, as well as to growing worker acclimation to shared indoor spaces.
