Saskatchewan has counted 12 new deaths linked to COVID-19 in its latest weekly report published on Thursday. Since the virus arrived in the province, 1,424 Saskatchewanians have lost their lives to the disease.
Hospitalizations continue to decline, as does the number of intensive care patients. The authorities counted 157 and five respectively as of June 22.
The BA2 sub-variant is still responsible for just over 90% of contamination.
The presence of the BA4 and BA5 subvariants was also detected. The latter have an increased transmissibility, but the severity of their effects is still unknown.
Among the population aged 12 years and older, 49.4% received a third dose. This figure rises to 52.7% for people aged 18 and over.
In addition, the report shows two outbreaks in long-term care homes, three less than last week.
