The current wave of covid-19 in France, which began in early June, continued in early August the decline that began several weeks ago, in terms of cases and hospitalizations, Public Health France announced on Thursday.
In one week, therefore, hospitalizations fell (-28%), even only for critical care (-26%). The number of cases kept going down, like for several weeks. On Thursday, 24,312 cases had been detected, compared to almost 34,000 the previous week.
All affected regions
The last wave was declared at the beginning of June. Some researchers then expressed their fears about hospitalizations in a context marked by the end of almost all restrictions, including the mandatory use of masks in transport, and the uncertainties surrounding Omicron’s BA.4 and BA.5 variants.
Ultimately, the number of people hospitalized with Covid seems to be reaching a lower level (around 20,000) than in previous big waves. As in the previous week, the decrease in cases and hospitalizations affects all regions of mainland France.
“However, the virological and hospital indicators (remain) high”, warns Public Health France, and always recommends applying barrier gestures, including the use of a mask in transport.
