The head of Pfizer tested positive. The general director of the American laboratory, at the origin of the vaccine of the same name, announced this Monday on Twitter that he had contracted Covid-19, when he had received four doses of a vaccine created by his company.
“I would like to inform you that I have tested positive for Covid-19. I am grateful to have received four doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine,” announced Albert Bourla, while specifying “I feel fine”, despite the presence of “mild symptoms”.
The head of the American laboratory indicates that he has been placed in isolation and has started treatment with Paxlovid, an antiviral. The oral drug, produced by Pfizer, is intended to greatly reduce the risk of hospitalization or death within three days of the onset of symptoms.
“Trust” in your recovery
Despite his contamination, the lab’s general manager says he is “confident he will recover quickly,” referring to (his lab’s) “efforts to combat this disease.”
“I am incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of my colleagues at Pfizer who have worked to create vaccines and treatments for me and for people around the world,” he said.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced last week that it was targeting the approval in the fall of an anti-Covid vaccine by the Pfizer/BioNTech laboratory aimed at the two subvariants of the Omicron strain BA.4 and BA.5, currently causing the rapid spread of the virus.
