Fifteen fires in three years in the Cap-Pelé region

Several fires have occurred over the past three years in the Cap-Pelé region of New Brunswick. Businesses, factories and even a church were damaged or destroyed by fire. While the community expresses concern and calls for action to be taken, here is a recap on a series of pertinent events.


Chez Camille Restaurant take-out

The fire destroyed this well -known seafood restaurant around 3:30 am on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Although at the very beginning of its investigation, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police suspected arson.


Buccaneer Philip Ouellette & Sons

This smoking room located in Petit-Cap was completely destroyed on the night of February 24 to 25, 2022. It took five fire brigades to extinguish the fire. Authorities have no suspicion of foul play.


Shemogue’s Church

On December 9, 2021, the century-old church of the parish of Saint-Timothée, in Shemogue, was destroyed by fire. samuel Jamie Vautour, 26, from Cap-Pelé, was accused of burning the place of worship. His next court appearance is on May 9.

On the night of September 29-30, 2021, a fire was reported to have broken out in the basement of a Shediac appliance store that closed in 2020 after 51 years of service. The fire was quickly controlled.

A garage and a boat next to a house were also destroyed by fire in Scoudouc, on the night of September 29 to 30, 2021. The owners at the time stated that these goods were uninsured.


An unoccupied house in Beaubassin-est

The roof and back of the house were destroyed.

Again on the night of September 29 to 30, 2021, an unoccupied house burned down in the rural community of Beaubassin-est, in Grand-Barachois.


A series of fires in smokehouses in Petit-Cap

In the summer of 2021, fires broke out in various buildings for three consecutive weekends in Petit-Cap.

On August 14, a herring smokehouse company Botsford Fisheries was destroyed by fire.

On August 21, the buccaneer of Botsford Fisheries was destroyed this time, then the fire spread to the second building.

On Aug. 28, the M&M Cormier buccaneer was destroyed by a third fire.

A building destroyed by fire.

Company area Great Canvas of Cap-Pelé burned on June 24, 2020. It was not a criminal act, according to authorities. Electrical is the cause of the fire.
