The City of Leduc unanimously approved funding Monday night for a new strategy to improve workplace culture. This funding came after a lawsuit filed by two firefighters ordering decades of abuse.
The City Council approved up to $ 165,000 for the development and implementation of a new equity, diversity and inclusion strategy.
City manager Derek Prohar told councilors that steps have already been taken to find outside expertise to examine the culture of the entire organization.
He did not provide a timeline, but said more information will be available in the coming weeks.
According to the city’s schedule, the administration learned of the allegations raised by firefighters in May 2021.
Veritas Solutions was hired to investigate and completed its work in January. The formulation of recommendations is not part of this work, according to the municipal administration.
The administration did not make the resulting report available to the public or city councilors, under the privacy law, he said. The resulting disciplinary measures were also not disclosed.
