Residents of four houses and two apartments were evacuated as a preventive measure on Tuesday afternoon in La Baie after the Ministry of Transport discovered distressing cracks in the embankment in the Port-Alfred sector.
These are the occupants of two single-family residences and an apartment building at 8at avenue as well as two other residences at 9at av.
A civil security team from
MTQ and the city went to the scene to assess the situation.The temporary reinforcement measures will allow residents of the two dwellings to return to their homes within a few days.
For other affected buildings, a longer review is needed. The Red Cross took care of the affected citizens with no possibility of moving in with relatives.
So far, we don’t have details of the steps the experts will take, but if we are told that we have secured the area, it is possible by strengthening in more dangerous areas. There are actually additional tests to be done by engineers from the Saguenay City engineering department and expert engineers from the Quebec Ministry of Transport.said Saguenay City spokesman Martin Lavoie.
Local residents were the first to alert the Saguenay Fire Department.
