Rehabilitation process

Judge Thierry Potvin, of the Court of Quebec, agreed with the joint proposal of Me Nicolas Bigué, the public prosecutor, and Me André Levasseur, of the defense. According to him, the verdict takes into account both the seriousness of the actions taken and the rehabilitation process already begun by Yann Marcotte, who underwent 14 months of therapy for his drug addiction problems.

It is a compromise between a certain need to punish yourself for the actions you have taken, but at the same time not to slow down your rehabilitation attempts. Basically, it’s all to your credit to go into therapy, to complete a fairly long program. However, and this is clearly identified in the report before the sentence, you have created a problem that may not be the only one you have, so you have a long way to go.said Judge Potvin.

Yann Marcotte’s detention sentence was accompanied by supervised probation and a driving ban for three years. He will also be banned from owning a gun for 10 years. Follow-ups were imposed on him to help him deal with his drug abuse and anger management issues while on probation. He will also need to complete 100 hours of community work.

Yann Marcotte is facing justice in five other cases, which will be filed next July.
