Quebec announced the second series of districts where pilot projects will be implemented. Sherbrooke and Lac-Mégantic will have these special courts, in addition to Granby and Drummondville, which have already inaugurated themselves. This second wave also includes Laval, Sept-Îles and Montmagny.

When announcing the first series of pilot projects, Quebec’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General Simon Jolin-Barrette announced that he wanted to deploy these courts throughout the province.

These courts, which are part of Bill 92 adopted by the National Assembly in November 2021, aim to better meet the needs and realities of victims of sexual violence and domestic violence. A single prosecutor from the Criminal and Penal Prosecutions Department (DPCP) was assigned to the case along with the victim, at various stages. Any victim (regardless of their income and financial situation) can benefit from free legal advice for a total of four hours.
