27 dogs, five cats and a guinea pig were removed from a Norfolk County home on Sunday following an animal cruelty investigation.
A pig, two donkeys and three horses were also removed from the property with the help of volunteers, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Police responded to the home on County Road 19 in Townsend around 11 p.m. A passerby noticed the animals in a ditch. Investigators said the driver stopped and called 911 after not finding the owner.
Animal Humane Services and the Ministry of the Solicitor General have also contacted to assist in the investigation after several animals were found inside the house.
Police said a 63-year-old woman is facing an animal cruelty charge.
