Male, drowned while fishing in Newfoundland and Labrador

A 73-year-old man died following a boating accident Monday in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that a man and a woman boarded a small boat for a morning fishing on the lake. Scotch Pondlocated about sixty miles west of Saint-Jean, about 6:30 am

According to the information provided by the police, the man lost his balance when he started the engine and fell into the water.

Always according to RCMPseveral times the woman would have tried to help the man to get back into the boat, but it was unsuccessful.

He was about to throw himself into the water to bring the man back to shore.

No one was wearing a flotation device. The investigation was opened to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
