One year after a disastrous report, none of the 151 recommendations came from an independent review of how police handle missing person cases.
The report of former judge Gloria Epstein, who looked into the cases of victims of serial killer Bruce McArthur, among other things, was identified. major flaws and some systematic discrimination in police procedures.
Police Chief James Ramer said at a Toronto Police Services Board meeting on Monday that 60 of the recommendations were being implemented, while nothing was done for the other 91.
[Le rapport] has not identified any recommendations that actually need to be placed before a one -year anniversarysaid Mr. Ramer.
Former judge Epstein was present at the meeting Monday, but did not speak.
Police explained that the pandemic and the difficulties experienced by some community members in using computers for consultations, in particular, slowed down the process of implementing the recommendations.
One of the recommendations that the police force is trying to implement is the application for missing persons. This app will allow an official to quickly share details of the loss with colleagues.
Once an agent has entered the data, which takes less than 10 minutes after arriving at the scene, searches can beginexplanation by Desmond Ryan of the team implementing the recommendations.
Through the app, police can also notify agencies such as the Transit Commission (CTT), schools and residences.
