The MMF defended itself in a lawsuit launched by the Métis National Council

The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) and its president, David Chartrand, filed their defense statement on Thursday, in which they responded to allegations in the Métis National Council (MNC) case against the organization.

In their 49-page long defense, the MMF and Mr. Chartrand said that the pursuit of RNM ay a clear attempt by the new board to legitimize and discredit MMF and its president, David Chartrand, to maintain and increase their influence.

According to the document, the RNM disagree with MMF regarding the meaning of a people of mixed race. The disagreement over the definition and determination of criteria for compliance with Métis citizenship is highly disruptive to MMF citizenssaid the defense.

It is supposed to be MMF that the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) would have refused to apply the national definition of a Métis person adopted by RNM in 2002. The MMF hopefully claim, in 2019, that the NMO ceased to be a member of RNM because of this decline.

David Chartrand asks in exchange for a statement from RNM insisted that he act in good faith. He is also seeking various damages and the reimbursement of costs he paid to respond to the legal recourse of RNM.
