Abuse of authority: agent Mathieu Chamberland receives 8-day suspension

Because he abused his authority during a dispute in Val-d’Or in June 2018, Sûreté du Québec agent Mathieu Chamberland was suspended without pay for eight days by the Police Ethics Committee.

On June 24, 2018, while responding to a noise complaint in a building in Val-d’Or, Officer Chamberland allegedly threatened a 16-year-old man. The police would also have pushed him by holding his neck. He gave an unreasonable statement of guilt of intimidation against a peace officer against a minor child. After delivering the young man home, he made a frightening remark to his parents.

During his testimony at the Police Ethics Committee investigation, in October 2020, agent Chamberland denied several charges against him, including holding the victim by the neck.

Four counts relating to non -compliance with the Code of Ethics for Police Officers were filed against Constable Chamberland, one for intimidating or intimidating the victim, one for filing an accusation against him unreasonably, one for in the use of force without right and finally. one for intimidating the victim’s parents.
