Ang SQ Wants to have more access to surveillance cameras when a misdemeanor occurs in Victoriaville. Such registers have already been implemented in Longueuil and Trois-Rivières.

The strength of setting up a register of surveillance cameras is to find out fairly quickly what tools are by which we can search for visual extracts on the perimeter where the incident occurred.explanation of the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec Aurélie Guindon.

Businesses and citizens are therefore invited to register their tracking system on the City’s website. Their recordings will be easier to track, if needed.

The registration does not give permission to SQ to consult the register at any time. This is really in the context of police investigations and also, it is important to mention that people can revoke their consent at any time.said Aurélie Guindon.

Many members of the business community were randomly identified by Radio-Canada who welcomed the initiative.

We welcome that with pride. Proud of following like other cities, and proud of having a safer environment, it’s good for everyonesaid Stéphanie Allard, director of the Bois-Francs/Érable Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

I think it’s important as a business, but as a citizen as well, to help police officers improve safety for everyone. If we can do a little part of it, it will make us happyadded Fromagerie director of operations Victoria Yan Jodoin.

A private registry

By implementing this project, the City and the Sûreté du Québec want to be reassured: citizens do not have to be afraid of any intrusion into their private lives.

It is a register that is completely private in the sense that no public data related to the registrations will be made and it is in a secure database.supports Aurélie Guindon.

Register entries remain valid for two years.
