One dead after a shootout with police in Vancouver

According to the Vancouver Police Department, a man died following a shooting involving law enforcement, which occurred Thursday at the Patricia Hotel in Downtown Eastside.

According to information from the Vancouver Police Department, just after 4 pm Thursday, May 5, police responded to a complaint at the Patricia Hotel, located at the corner of East Hastings Streets and Dunlevy Avenue.

When police arrived at the scene, a man allegedly fired a weapon, and officers fired.

The 40-year-old man was shot and killed at the scene.

The investigation was entrusted to the Office of Independent Investigations of British Columbia.

This department is responsible for investigating all incidents related to the actions of officers resulting in serious injury or death in the line of duty, with or without allegations of misconduct.

The province purchased the Patricia Hotel and two other buildings on the Downtown Eastside in April to accommodate the homeless, including those living in Strathcona Park.
