More than a year and a half after her disappearance, the body of Chelsea Poorman, a 24-year-old Cree woman, was found outside an unoccupied home in Vancouver, according to city police.
In a statement, the Vancouver Police Department said the girl’s body was discovered by construction workers on April 22 near a home near Grandville Street and 37at West Avenue in the upscale neighborhood of Shaughnessy.
The coroner’s inquest determined that Chelsea Poorman likely died at this location on or a few hours after the day of her disappearance, but her body remained unidentified for more than a year because the house had been unoccupied for several years. . According to the coroner’s inquest, it was not a suspicious death.

Chelsea Poorman has been missing since Sept. 8, 2020. She was last seen by her sister two days before one night on Grandville Street in downtown Vancouver.
At the end of her disappearance, her family organized a public search campaign, put up posters on the city walls and hired a private detective in hopes of finding any trace of the Cree girl.
Her mother, Sheila Poorman, then shared her frustration that police only made public the disappearance of her son 10 days after she was last seen. He said the young woman was particularly vulnerable due to brain damage and a propensity to trust people.
Chelsea Poorman has been described as a kind and funny person, who loved animals, music and fashion and dreamed of studying cinema.
