An arrest after the discovery of the fire man remains in a vehicle

An Edmonton resident has been charged with first-degree murder after burning debris was found inside the vehicle, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The remains were discovered Sept. 15 after firefighters extinguished a fire that engulfed a vehicle near Ardrossan, Strathcona County.

The autopsy identified the victim as Edmontonian Vanessa Silva, 29 years old.

Since his death was declared suspicious, the Major Crimes Unit of RCMP take over the investigation.

The 25-year-old suspect is already in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Edmonton on Wednesday.
