The new evacuation orders follow those released Saturday for Vale Island and the area around the West Channel of the Hay River.

At 5:00 pm Saturday, the Town of Hay River said via email that water and ice had fallen on the banks of the East Canal around the museum, flooding areas of 100at Street, from 101at Street and the 102at street.

Water also flooded the canals of 103at Road and ice went to sections of highway, south of Porritt Landing Marina.

The freeway was temporarily closed to allow for ice removal and reopened to southbound traffic around 10:30 p.m.

Other areas around the West Hay River Channel and West Point First Nation were flooded, as well as the Paradise Valley areas upstream.

A total of 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected in the Hay River area on Monday morning.
