Saguenay OMH to rescue those affected by the fire in Chicoutimi-Nord

Saguenay’s Office municipal d’habitation (OMH) will help seven families on the streets following the violent fire that destroyed housing cooperative Le Pentagone on Saturday in the northern sector of Chicoutimi.

Twenty -one people were affected, including 11 children.

Victims, who live in a cooperative funded by the Société d’habitation du Québec, can be transferred to available housing in public housing from Saguenay.

A meeting will take place on Monday morning.

We commit ourselves to see how we can help them. […] We’ll really get an idea tomorrow morning of needs, then we’ll get the necessary information to meet people or at least contact them to see their needs.explains Arianne Villeneuve, director of customer service atOMH from Saguenay.

The MNA also requested for Chicoutimi and Minister of Municipal Affairs, Andrée Laforest, two social workers fromOMH was in place on Monday to assist the victims. The Red Cross, which takes care of the families, offers emergency assistance within 72 hours.

The cause of the fire is still being determined and the investigation will continue on Monday.
