A coaster that spotted the presence of GHB, also called the date rape drug, will be distributed at several bars in Rimouski this week. It is an initiative of the community organization En tout CAS

Its director, Luc Jobin, explains that someone who believes he is drunk on GHB just needs to pour a few drops of his drink into the coaster pellets and wait. If the pellet changes color and turns blue, it means that the substance has been detected.

It can also have a somewhat suppressing effect. A person with bad intentions who wants to put something in someone’s drink and see it on the counter can think twice.hope mr. Jobin.

In recent months, the organization has seen an increase in GHB poisonings in the region.

Emmy Karcher is the student environment delegate at Cégep de Rimouski. Since reopening the bars, he has also observed a return of cases associated with GHB, an odorless, tasteless and difficult to identify substance.

We are in Rimouski, it is a small town. You may think this is not happening [ici]but as early as March there were four to five social media accounts of people who put rape drugs dating into their drinks.

This is also one of the reasons that prompted the En tout CAS organization to carry out the project. Over the past few months, we’ve learned that there are young women we’ve talked to who have experienced episodes of intoxication in some bars.confirmation by Luc Jobin.

The coaster was placed on a bar counter.

In partnership with licensed establishments in the region and with the Cégep student association, these GHB-detectable coasters will be distributed free of charge to customers.

The owner of Cabaret l’Éden, Michel Thibault, is happy to participate in this initiative. The entrepreneur testified to the challenge posed by this substance to the managers of establishments serving alcoholic beverages.

The drunk person is not happy [du tout]. Whether my child or anyone, it’s not funny. If we can identify it directly, we can help right away and not the next day.

A quote from Michel Thibault, owner of Cabaret l’Eden

The Sûreté du Québec does not speak about a wave of drug rape cases in Rimouski. The police force confirmed, however, that this problem is indeed present in the region.
