After 14 days of hearings, the evidence is closed in the trial of Carl Girouard, who is accused of killing two people by attacking passersby with sabers in Old Quebec.
The trial will adjourn on Tuesday to allow lawyers to prepare their arguments, which will take place from Wednesday.
Girouard’s lawyer will be the first to appear before the jury. The defense is seeking a conviction of non -criminal liability, for mental disorder.
The Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) relies on a contradictory report to support first degree murder cases.
The 26-year-old was also charged with five attempted murder during the attack on Halloween night in the fall of 2020.
Last witness
Psychiatrist Sylvain Faucher was the last witness heard, the 21st in total in this case, which began on April 11th.
His cross-examination, which began on Friday, continued throughout Monday.
Girouard’s lawyer tried to undermine the psychiatrist’s credibility by questioning his conclusions.
Dr. remained. Faucher in his positions, concerned on many occasions that psychiatry is not an exact science.
If most jurors adopted a neutral hearing, two jurors nodded several times while Drs. Faucher gave his explanations.
Deliberations
After the pleas on Wednesday, Judge Richard Grenier will give his instructions to the 11 jurors.
He suggested they do this in two stages, as the law provides that jurors will be separated at the conclusion of these instructions.
The judge suggested to the jury members that they begin their instructions on Thursday and finish them the following Monday, to allow them to spend the weekend with their families.
