A brush fire keeps firefighters in suspense at Amos

Firefighters were called around 2:50 a.m. Monday through Tuesday night for the fire on Croteau Road in Amos.

On the way, they noticed the fire spreading about two kilometers away. The shelters were evacuated overnight.

Forty firefighters arrived.

Considering the extent of the fire, we called on all our colleagues from the MRC; Barraute, La Corne, Saint-Marc, Landrienne, Preissac. We needed work because a lot of territory had to be covered. Stéphane Sigouin added that a firefighter is monitoring the area in case the fire continues.

Twenty firefighters from Amos and Landrienne were also extinguished in Pikogan on Monday. The fire destroyed a house, a garage and spread vegetation.

The ban on open fire in and near the forest is in effect in the MRCs of Témiscamingue and Rouyn-Noranda.
