The Alberta government is now reimbursing the costs of organizations that have already installed or upgraded their security system since June 1, 2021.
A protection fund for charities, places of worship and community establishments was already set up last year, but it only covers future security costs for these organizations.
Eligible areas can now be paid up to $ 10,000 for risk assessment costs and up to $ 35,000 for safety training and measures placed.
The reimbursement fund also includes $ 10,000 for actions taken immediately after the hate incident.
Unfortunately, we continue to see that these measures are needed in Albertasaid Justice Minister Tyler Shandro.
He made particular reference to an incident last month involving two mosques in Edmonton. Alberta’s Capital Police Hate Crimes Unit has launched an investigation after a white powder envelope was sent to two places of worship.
The Infrastructure Security Program, whose total rose to $ 5 million in March, is now offered year-round with no deadline to apply.
According to the government, about $ 1.2 million has already been distributed to more than 100 organizations.
