The Occupational Health and Safety Commission of Alberta has filed lawsuits against Brewster in connection with a 2020 fatal motorcoach accident in Jasper National Park.
Brewster faces eight charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including improper assessment and control of hazards and failure to ensure equipment.
Three people were killed and 24 others were injured on July 18, 2020, when a bus Ice Explorer leave the traffic lane on the road to Columbia Icefield, located about 100 kilometers southeast of Jasper. The vehicle, carrying 27 people, rolled down a slope and rolled several times before crashing into the roof.
The case will be heard in Jasper Provincial Court on June 23.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) also investigated the tragedy. He said his investigation was complete and his report was submitted to the Alberta Crown Attorney’s office last month to determine if the evidence necessitated criminal charges.
This report has not been made public. The RCMP says it will provide an update when more information on the results of the investigation can be released.
At least two civil cases seeking compensation for the survivors and families of the victims are also being conducted in connection with the tragedy.
