Nearly 24 hours after the Saskatoon Police Department announced that two police officers from the canine unit were charged with aggravated assault, Justin Soroka, one of the complainants, is discussing the dog bite incident in which he was victimized in 2019.
Justin Soroka decided to file a formal complaint against police after he was badly bitten by a police dog during an arrest in 2019. Police officer Cole Miklautsch, a member of the police force for 13 years, was charged in connection with this matter.
The complainant indicates that he was badly bitten in the calf and taken to the hospital. The injury still leaves a large scar, he says. It was like a little shark bit my leg.
Mr Soroka said he wanted to make sure there were changes made to the canine unit policy and it would never happen to anyone again.
” There is no other way to describe it. It was horrible. To this day, there is still significant, major damage. Scars on left and right. “
I am permanently disabled. I look like a monster now. People immediately look at me to see if I’m wearing shorts or whatever.he says
The man was charged with burglary, possession of methamphetamine and mushrooms, false identity documents and mischief. None of the allegations have been substantiated in court.
Police said officers tried to stop his vehicle, as he refused to stop and preferred to drive.
Mr. Soroka said he was about to give up when he was hit by a police officer. He said that four policemen had already subdued him and asked him to stop the fight when the police dog was released.
I just tried not to feel like I was choking.
A hearing date before the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) for police officer Cole Miklautsch, as well as Dennis Baron, is scheduled for next week.
While awaiting the outcome of the investigation, Justin Soroka plans to file a civil case against Saskatoon police.
Another officer, Dennis Baron, was charged in connection with the 2020 arrest as police responded to a break-in at a fenced compound.
