According to the Society for the Protection of Forests against Fire (SOPFEU), this fire is currently contained, which means its development has been halted, even temporarily.

Four tanker planes sprayed the area several times at the end of the day. Four forest firefighters were deployed at the scene.

Municipal fire departments are also there. Police from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) assisted firefighters in their operations.

The work of firefighters SOPFEU will resume Saturday early.

Prohibit open fires

We don’t know yet what started this forest fire, but the heat of the last days and drought are certainly two of the causes.

Note that since the beginning of May, open fires in or near forests have been banned by the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks in all regions of southern Quebec (Montreal, Laval, Laurentides, Lanaudière, Outaouais, Estrie, Center-du- Québec, Chaudière-Appalaches) as well as in some RCMs of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Mauricie, Capitale-Nationale and Bas-Saint-Laurent.

More details will follow.
