Data compiled by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) shows that the number of offenses tends to increase in the months of May, September and October.

Mario Vaillancourt, spokesman for SAAQ, suggests that several hypotheses can be made to explain this phenomenon. He mentioned the increase in traffic on the roads in the spring.

We can imagine the return of motorcycles, more pedestrians, cyclists. So this may partly explain the larger number of offenses associated with police operations. Because if the issue is the month of May, as it is the time of year when the return of many road users is strong, the police forces are conducting many police operations.he says.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue interventions

In the region, police operations are also planned for the long Patriots Day weekend, and patrol officers will continue to conduct interventions, with an emphasis on road sharing.

A man is cycling in traffic.

Nancy Fournier also wants to remind you to beware of mopeds, commonly called scooters or mopeds.

Our teenagers with moped, they have no experience. It certainly didn’t roll too fast. So when you come on the back of a moped, be careful, be patient. When the sign allows you, that’s where you can pass, but be carefulhe says.

Sergeant Fournier added that patrol officers continue to monitor excessive speed, pedestrian crossing, seat belt use, and cell phones while driving.
