As part of a police operation aimed at limiting disturbing noises, the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) issued approximately one hundred guilt statements to motorists overnight from Friday to Saturday.
The operation Disturbing noisestook place between 6 pm Friday and 3 am Saturday morning, in the sectors of Grande Allée and Boulevard Champlain, in Quebec City.
Police fined 15 motorists for not complying with exhaust systems, 80 for various violations of the road safety code, such as speeding for example.
Five findings were returned in connection with a new municipal law recently enacted by Quebec City, which allows them to fine any motorist who makes noise deemed to greatly disturb public peace. For example, the squeaking of the tires or the use of the engine at excessive speed.
A driver was also arrested for driving while disabled.

The operation was triggered following numerous complaints from citizens about the noise made by vehicles, mainly in the Grande Allée sector.
