In Brampton, Brady Robertson was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Monday in connection with the accidental death of Karolina Ciasullo and her 3 daughters in June 2020 in Caledon. The test showed that the individual had cannabis levels eight times higher in the blood than the legal limit.
Brady Robertson pleaded guilty last year to four counts of dangerous driving causing death, but not guilty to four other counts of driving disability causing death.
He filed a constitutional complaint in the last four cases in which he was finally convicted this winter after his defeat in them during the closing of arguments following a guilty plea.
The Crown requested an unprecedented sentence of 23 years in prison and the defense of 7 years during sentencing hearings.
Brady Robertson will be eligible for parole after completing the third as required by law. The judge refused to impose on him the right to parole as requested by the Crown.
The individual will be prohibited from driving a motor vehicle for 20 years after his or her release from prison. In effect of the time he has spent in preventive detention since he was arrested, he only has to serve a sentence of 14 years and two months in prison.
