Attack on Old Quebec: 12 citizens decorated for their bravery

For helping people at risk of risking their lives on the night of October 31, 2020, 12 citizens were honored.

Citizens were decorated during the annual police recognition ceremony held at the École nationale de police du Québec.

Abdulhadi Al Ezzi, Andréanne Careau, Bradley Purcell, Benjamin Bréard, Chloé Déry-Drolet, Mathieu Cloutier, Josélito Corneli, Jean-Benoît Falardeau, Keven Lemay, Marie-France Rioux, Guillaume Ouellet and Laurence Rousseau helped the citizens during of the attack in which two were killed and five were injured on the night of October 31, 2020. For example, Dr. Marie-France Rioux to rescue her neighbor Suzanne Clermont, who was killed that night.

The altruism, coolness and amazing courage shown by the men and women who witnessed this dark event deserve to be underlined.said Andrée Doré, communications adviser at the École nationale de police du Québec, in the speech at the presentation of the awards.

Two other citizens and two police officers from Quebec City were also honored for their acts of bravery during the ceremony.

Emotional

The Minister of Public Security Geneviève Guilbault gave them the awards in person.

We felt a lot of emotion in them, so much humilityhe commented, minutes after the ceremony.
