Charges remain against the Chief of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation

The charges against Whitecap Dakota First Nation Chief Darcy Bear remain in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

He was accused of assaulting a First Nation woman. Whitecap Dakotawhich is 30 kilometers south of Saskatoon.

Darcy Bear also faces charges related to damage to Dakota Dunes casino equipment. The cost of this damage is $ 5,000.

Both charges were dropped at the request of the Crown prosecutor.

In a statement sent through his attorney, Darcy Bear said he was grateful for the court’s decision.

He says he always maintains his innocence. Darcy Bear also said he is happy that this case no longer interferes with the important work he continues to do at First Nations.

Darcy Bear was elected to the First Nation council Whitecap Dakota in 1991 at the age of 23. Three years later, he became the leader of this community.
