A forty -year -old man will face multiple charges after attempting to flee Saguenay police on Monday night in the borough of Chicoutimi. During his escape, the individual ran into a residence on Price Street before being stopped in a woods near the scene of the accident while trying to flee while walking.
The story began around 6:30 pm when a patrolman from the Saguenay Police Department intercepted a pickup truck that was reported stolen last night. The police officer identified the man driving the vehicle, who was known to police.
According to Lieutenant Stéphane Pellerin, the suspect pretended to follow after stopping at the side of the road and then boarded the patrol boat. Wanting to flee, he crashed into the gallery of a house at the corner of Price and Labrecque streets. The criminal continued to run before being arrested a few minutes later.
The individual will show up Tuesday morning at Chicoutimi courthouse and will face several charges, including armed assault, hit and run and obstructing police work. He also broke a release order.
Additionally, firefighters were called to the scene to check the condition of the residential structure following the collision. According to Lieutenant Pellerin, the structure has weakened due to impact and work will be needed.
The stolen vehicle has been towed and returned to its owner.
