Fewer deaths on Estrie roads in 2021

The number of people killed in a car accident in Estrie is declining in 2021. This emerges from the road safety report published today by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec.

A total of 20 people were killed on the region’s roads in 2021 compared to 27 in 2020.

As for the number of people seriously injured, there are 70. This is also down from 2020, where there were 97.

Ang SAAQ nagpapaalala na these data are not typical due to the context of the pandemic. Therefore, the data is compared to the average for the years 2016 to 2020. In 2021, there will be 15% fewer deaths and 31% fewer injuries in road accidents compared to 2016-2020.

Across Quebec, 40% of those killed were pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists.

SAAQ has also noticed an increase in the number of vehicles on the roads. There was a huge increase in motorcycles (+11%) and mopeds (+11%). Imbalance, for weak users, can be partly attributed to this increasecan we read in a press release.
