Increasing fuel thefts in Saskatchewan

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Saskatchewan is reporting an increase in the number of fuel thefts across the province.

According to data released on Monday, the RCMP reports 178 cases of fuel theft in Saskatchewan between January and April. This represents a 76% increase in this type of flight compared to the same period last year.

The head of the Crime Reduction and Prevention Unit, Monica Deters, said 137 of the thefts occurred at gas stations. It calls on the owners of these stations to be vigilant.

We urge owners to adopt avoidance measures such as prepayment to prevent customers from leaving without paying.

Ang RCMP Saskatchewan reported 12 thefts from bulk tanks, 10 thefts from fuel tanks on farms, 10 thefts from jerry cans of fuel, and 9 thefts while sipping fuel tanks.

Members of the public are asked to take precautions such as keeping private gas tanks closed and keeping their vehicles in garages or in busy areas.
