A rock slide causes a power outage in the Rivière-à-Claude

A rockslide at the western exit of the village caused a power outage just before 4 am Wednesday morning. According to Hydro-Québec, 143 customers are without electricity.

A Hydro-Québec team is already on site. A mechanical shovel is coming. Excavation will be required to determine the extent of the damage.

A mechanical shovel from the Ministère des Transports was also sent to the scene to clean the scree which will help the Hydro-Québec team.

The state corporation points out that it remains difficult to predict exactly when power will be restored. However, according to initial estimates, power could return around 5 p.m.

The landslide stopped before it hit the road. Therefore it is still possible to circulate normally in 132 and in the village.

A ground motion expert from the MTQ should be present to direct operations and secure the area.

Frost combined with rain can cause landslides.
