You put a lot of energy into your vegetable garden during the pandemic years, but this year the trend is laissez-faire. Nature takes care of others.
It’s time to sit in our garden and watch all the natural happening around ussaid Natasha Guillot, director of the Calgary Horticultural Society.
Conscious gardening is one of the hottest trends in 2022 in the horticultural world. It’s a slower turn to better understand one’s gardening areabelieves Natasha Guillot.
Save its seeds, save its water
According to the horticulturist, expect a shortage of seed pods soon. So it is necessary to have a reflex to save the seeds from the vegetables we grow, explains Natasha Guillot. These seeds can be extracted directly from tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots or other vegetables and can be good for decades.
Dry summers are also expected in the future and water conservation and management are important. It is important to think about collecting rainwater and storing it during the summer months.
Cultivation without plowing
The practice of planting without bending the soil, in English called No Till, is gaining more followers. When the soil is turned upside down using a rotary tiller, the soil is aerated, but it also dries out and prevents the formation of good bacteria, explains Natasha Guillot.
The preferred way is to add compost and let nature take care of the rest.
