Murder in North Kildonan: Winnipeg police are looking for more victims

Winnipeg police said they hope to find more potential victims after human remains were found in an apartment in North Kildonan on Monday.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Rebecca Contois, officials said at a press conference Thursday.

A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday and charged with first degree murder. He is still incarcerated.

Investigators directed their search to the Brady Road dump, located just south of the Winnipeg perimeter. They think they have identified what they call a potential crime scene.

This week, the forensic team inspected the trash cans behind Mar Joy’s apartments, located on Edison Avenue, between Henderson Highway Road and Baie Arby.

Police did not provide details of where Rebecca Contois was killed, but described the scene where her remains were found as scary.

The latter specified that Rebecca Contois and the arrested man would meet, but he did not provide further details.

The suspect was arrested at his residence, which is near Edison Avenue.
