The United States announced this week a historic agreement in soccer. After long years of struggle, the Federation has approved equal pay for which the men’s and women’s teams will receive the same, a measure that hopes to create a precedent in the rest of the countries, including of course Spain.
One of the arguments that is heard the most when comparing salaries or bonuses for objectives achieved is that they generate more than them, but in the American case this has never been the case, so the comparative offense was truly alarming. What they have been fighting for since 2019 Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Hope Soloamong others, is little less than an act of justice.

The Wall Street Journal had access to the financial reports of US Soccer and showed that between 2016 and 2018 the Women’s National Team generated 50.8 million dollars in ticket sales for the matches for the 49.9 million of the men’s. In fact, in 2016, after winning the World Cup in Canada, women surpassed men by 1.9 million dollars.
According to this newspaper, a player would then receive $99,000 if she won 20 games in a year, but a soccer player would receive $100,000 even if he lost the same number of games he plays.
The difference between what they received and what they received is highlighted also taking into account the baggage of titles of each selection. Thus, the female has won the world Cup four times and the gold medal in the Olympic Games in another four and also heads the FIFA world ranking. On the other hand, in the men’s category, the team has hardly excelled in international tournaments nor does it have renowned figures that allow it to fill stadiums. The repercussion has always been, therefore, much smaller.
Under the new deal, US Soccer will become “the first federation in the world to match FIFA World Cup prize money” given to teams for participating in World Cups.
“This is a truly historic moment. These deals have forever changed the game here in the United States and have the potential to change the game around the world,” US Soccer president Ms. Cindy Parlow Cone.
