A 21-year-old Winnipeg man had to be rescued when his car sank after he ignored barricades and drove toward a flood in southern Manitoba.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received an immediate call Thursday morning from a man trapped in his vehicle on Provincial Route 200, north of Saint-Adolphe, in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot
Water invaded the passenger compartment of the vehicle, reaching the level of the steering wheel and preventing the man from getting out.
Police and firefighters found the vehicle and rescued the man, who was later fined $ 237 under the Highway Traffic Act for not following barricades.
We all know that there are landslides in all parts of our province and these floods have resulted in the closure of some roads. said Captain Julie Courchaine, spokeswoman RCMP of Manitoba, in a press release.
Barricades were placed to ensure the safety of all. No one should attempt to avoid them under any circumstances, he points.
Like the western part of the province, Saint-Adolphe is one of many areas along the Red River Valley that experience significant flooding in the spring.
Roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been affected in dozens of communities in the southern half of the province.
