Eibar regained the leadership of LaLiga SmartBank by beating Tenerife 2-0 but they are not yet a First team having won Valladolid in Ibiza.
Match that started with a good pace of play. The two teams printed a lot of speed in the first stages of the clash. Eibar tried to take the initiative, but Tenerife did not lose face in the opening minutes.
The islanders played comfortably, but in the 12th minute Fran Sol put the visiting defense to the test with a shot that hit a chicharrero player. On the next play, Sergio Álvarez headed it over the crossbar. The gunsmiths warned of their intentions, knowing that Valladolid had gone ahead of the first exchange in Ibiza and the position of direct promotion was in danger.
Expósito linked a volley shot in the 16th minute that Juan Soriano saved well. In minute 19 Stoichkov invented an impossible autopass, after an excellent individual play and placed the ball in the corner out of Soriano’s reach. Masterfully, he put Eibar ahead and scored his twenty-first goal of the season, which placed him momentarily as the sole leader of the top scorer.
Mario González in the next minute had in his boots the possibility of equalizing in a good visitor play and immediately afterwards a shot by Mollejo was deflected by Correa and Cantero had to forcefully send it to a corner.
Eibar reacted and in minute 24 Stoichkov once again created a good chance of danger, which put Tenerife on alert. In minute 28 Fran Sol was able to sentence, but Juan Soriano put in a providential hand that sent the ball to the corner kick. A direct kick by Sielva in the first half hour, from a foul, once again allowed Soriano to shine in another good save.
Eibar wanted to solve it on the fast track and Corpas in the 37th minute tried to surprise with a shot from distance that went high. The gunsmiths dominated at times, but Tenerife did not allow the gunsmiths to go far.
So much so that in minute 42 Mario had the best for his team with a shot two meters from the goal that he sent very high when he was in an unbeatable position. At the stroke of halftime Sielva left the field due to injury and had to be replaced by Atienza.
The second half started strong for Eibar with a play by Corpas that assisted Fran Sol, who sent the ball into the goal at point-blank range and Soriano saved again in a masterful way. Tenerife was still in the game thanks to its goalkeeper. In the 50th minute, a defensive error by Tenerife ended with the ball in the boots of Expósito who, without marking, threw the ball very badly in a new armory opportunity.
Tenerife in attack seemed harmless and time was running in favor of Eibar. In the 60th minute, a ball from Corpas stopped Soriano again, who was becoming the true hero of the match. A minute later he saved her again after a shot from Expósito. Eibar forgave a lot.
Mario’s header had the first for Tenerife in the second half in the 65th minute. Also with a header, Venancio tested Soriano, who sent his shot to a corner kick,
Shortly after a double chance in a shot by Expósito that Soriano stopped and the rebound reached Corpas who crossed it too much.
In the 84th minute, a free kick by Expósito took the ball to Chema Rodriguez, who put in his leg to score the second local goal. In the final minutes Aitor Sanz tried to close the gap with a long shot, but it was too late. The direct ascent is therefore pending for the last day.
