The Manchester City can match the greatness of Man Utd from Sir Alex Ferguson if he achieves his fourth title of the premier league in five seasons with a victory against Aston Villa this Sunday, according to Pep Guardiola.
Ferguson’s United managed that feat three times, establishing themselves as the dominant force in English football during the Scottish manager’s 26-year reign.
“Of course it would be great (to win four in five seasons). When I got here, people told me that the Premier League is very difficult, the toughest, with everyone winning everyone,” Guardiola told reporters before the match against Villa. .
“Only Sir Alex Ferguson with United could do four in five years. When this happens, you realize the magnitude of that United in this period and how they were able to do it so many times. City must win at home on the final day to clinch the title ahead of Liverpool, who are a point behind against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Guardiola already has an eye on next season, with City having already signed striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this month to bolster their squad.
The 21-year-old Norwegian, who scored 29 goals for Dortmund last season, is one of Europe’s talents, but Guardiola warned that the Nordic should not be expected to succeed immediately.
“He’s coming to a new country, a new house, making new friends, all these kinds of things that he has to adjust to. But I’m pretty sure he’ll adjust just fine. If it takes him weeks, great.
