President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) today asked businessmen not to advertise in the media denouncing the government, at a meeting with businessmen organized by Grupo Voto in Rio de Janeiro during the Brasil de Ideias event. He claimed that the media lied.
“Now you advertisers will help Brazil a lot. My request to you is: Media that constantly lies, do not advertise in these media,” he said.
Bolsonaro’s speech came shortly after he mentioned suspicions of excessive pricing in the purchase of school buses. According to a study conducted by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, a proposal by the federal government expects to pay up to R$732 million more for the vehicles.
The president dismissed the suspicions and reiterated that there is no corruption in his government. But the Bolsonaro administration has already been associated with various media-denied plans, such as buying a vaccine against Covid-19 and taking bribes from evangelical pastors to allocate resources from the Ministry of Education.
Bolsonaro also took the opportunity this time to attack STF (Federal Supreme Court) ministers, but this time he didn’t mention names or the court: “And it’s not just the press all the time”.
