The trial of a father from Kamouraska accused of incest with his two children began Tuesday at the Rivière-du-Loup courthouse. The man faces 18 counts for actions he allegedly committed between 2003 and 2020 in towns in the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie regions.
The first day of this trial focused on listening to interviews recorded by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) with one of the alleged victims. In one of these videos, one of the defendant’s children described the multiple sexual assaults he allegedly suffered.
According to this alleged victim, these acts were committed at night or at night while he was lying in bed.
Upon listening to the video testimony, the accused reacted on multiple occasions, sigh and shake in disapproval of what he heard.
Earlier on Tuesday, his lawyer requested that the entire trial be held behind closed doors. This request was quickly denied by the judge.
The trial will resume on Wednesday. The first alleged victim must answer the lawyers’ questions.
The second alleged victim may also be called to the witness stand, if time permits.
This trial is scheduled for eight days.
An order prohibits the disclosure of any information that would identify the alleged victims.
